Internet Safety is a very bad issue in our world today. Children and teenagers especially are being affected by this. There is not enough protection on the internet i think. On the news we here about teenagers even children going to meet guys, women they have never met before, or even no that much about them. They have met them online through msn, myspace, bebo etc... "Sexual predators" as they are called and fake is who they are. They usually change there age to the same as whoever there victim is, change there display picture to a younger man, or women, and find out as much information about them as possible. They act as if they are your friend and say they have the same interests as you so it's not looking like a bad thing to go and meet them. They normally always turn out to be pedofiles and in some cases murders. There should be more control on computers so that parents can check on things like this. Know where there children are going who there are meeting, and this could be prevented. People thought that "sexual predators" had been removed from social networking sites but they are still around. According to the Associated press 90,000 "sexual predators" have been identifed and removed from the popular socail networking site Myspace.
In my oponion, sometimes it is the victims fault. On bebo for example there is a private page section, where you have to accept the person who adds you so they can view your page. Many people i know don't do this, and those who do just accept anybody anyway. When it does come to the point where they are talking to a stranger, why do they go meet them? I don't understand. Theres enough going on about pedofiles and murders killing and abusing teenagers for them to know better. Or if they didn't think meeting whoever it was a problem then why don't they tell there parents? Any sensible proper parent would demand to see whoever the person was, as this person would be a stranger to them. Then if this was to happen everything could be prevented.
Internet Safety should be stricter and looked at more in my oponion. This can't keep going on the way it is.

Good honest assessment of the present situation and the potential pitfalls.
ReplyDeleteIs it all about parental control? Can the parent be reasonably expected to monitor their children's on line activity, given how many points of access to the internet the average person now has (mobile phone, ipod touch etc)?
Do sites like Bebo do enough or is there little else they could do?
Energetic arguments! Well done.
